Republic of Turkey Burdur Governorship, Meeting and Interview with Burdur Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change

A meeting was held with the Department of Geography/Department Head, and later a conversation was organized with geography students. The event was attended by Mr. Ali ZEREN, the provincial director from the Burdur Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Deputy Provincial Director Mr. Osman Murat YILDIZ, and Branch Manager of the Department of Conservation of Natural Assets Mr. Sercan DURMAZ.
In the conversation, vital topics such as combating climate change, the effects of urbanization and environmental policies on geography, urbanization processes, and the critical importance of site selection were discussed in detail. Participants emphasized how taking conscious steps in these areas would play a role in sustainable development and the preservation of environmental balance. Information was shared about internship and job opportunities opened within the ministry and provincial directorate, especially for geography students and graduates, and examples were given on how these opportunities could shape career paths. In-depth information was provided on the importance of the use of geographic information systems (GIS) in today's world and how this technology plays a vital role in areas such as environmental planning, disaster management, and urbanization. Additionally, there was an exchange of ideas on what significant contributions geography graduates could make in future projects, particularly in areas such as urban planning, environmental protection, and combating climate change, and how they could be effective. This interaction enabled students and graduates to better understand their potential roles in the sector and to discover the directions needed to achieve their future career goals.
